Pride looks like this in me...

Question:
I attended your church administration continuing education learning track at the ICFG convention. Would you again provide the list of what pride looks like in your life? It was the highlight of the entire conference for me and I wanted to share it with a few other leaders.

Answer: In my personal life arrogance and pride can be seen when I:

  1. Roll my eyes at others.
  2. Dismiss the opinions, ideas or suggestions of others.
  3. Manipulate circumstances & outcomes for my benefit or to agree with my desires
  4. Am ashamed or embarrassed by friends or family…who they are and/or their actions.
  5. Attempt to exercise control by not greeting others who've "slighted" me.
  6. Vigorously defend my "threatened" views.
  7. Need special perks to feel important.
  8. Am judgmental of another individuals' motives.
  9. Make assumptions regarding the motives of others.
  10. Am annoyed by others actions.
  11. Am annoyed by God's grace to others "who don't deserve it."
  12. Am grumbling, complaining, grumpy & discontent.
  13. 1st think..."How does this affect me...my position/status/project?"
  14. Am unforgiving.
  15. Dwell on my offenders and their offenses.
  16. Am impatient w/ moms of crying babies on an airplanes.
  17. Force out cars trying to pass me & everyone in a closing/merging lane.
  18. Am upset about:
    Bikes in the driveway again.
    No clean socks.
    Not given a message.
    Trash/mail left @ the road.
    Others interrupting me now while I am ______________.
  19. Have racist thoughts, attitudes, words & stereotypes.
  20. Work in my own strength vs. God's strength.
  21. Seek the recognition of other people rather than God.
  22. Procrastinate doing Godls instructions...disobedience, delayed obedience, or partial obedience
  23. (I always leave one blank to remind me there is still more pride in my life.)
